Your Christmas Or Mine? is returning for a sequel set in the French Alps, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.

Filming on the follow-up to last year's Amazon Prime festive rom-com, which starred Sex Education's Asa Butterfield, Cora Kirk, Daniel Mays and Angela Griffin, and was written by Tom Parry of sketch trio Pappy's, begins next month in Austria and London.

The core cast are all expected to return as Jim O'Hanlon (Catastrophe, Trying) once again directs. Kate Heggie (King Gary) is again producing for Shiny Button Productions (The Curse), the company set up by Tom Davis and his regular collaborator, director James De Frond, with Andy Brereton.

The original film, first reported by BCG in 2021, saw student couple James (Butterfield) and Hayley (Kirk) decide to surprise the other at Christmas, only to have to accidentally experience the festivities with each other's families. Hayley gets stuck with James's military father, Lord Humphrey The Earl of Gloucester, at his country house, while James ends up staying with Hayley's working-class family, the Taylors, in Macclesfield.

In the sequel, Lord Humphrey invites the Taylors to Christmas in a luxury ski resort in the French Alps so they can meet his new American girlfriend.

But Hayley's dad Geoff (Mays) insists on handling his family's side of the booking and something got lost in translation. After a mix-up with transport at the airport the two families end up at each others accommodation on different sides of a valley and opposite ends of the Tripadvisor ratings scale.

"They've swapped Christmas - again!" is the sequel's tagline. "Can Hayley and James' relationship survive another turbulent family Christmas or has their future together gone off-piste?!"

Your Christmas Or Mine?, which also featured Alex Jennings, Harriet Walter, Ram John Holder, Natalie Gumede, David Bradley, Lucien Laviscount, comedian Lizzie Roper and Friday Night Dinner star Mark Heap, was Shiny Button's first feature film.

It was praised by Radio Times for containing "all the essential Christmas-movie ingredients: lashings of warmth and humour, plus the potential for an occasional chin-wobble", with the magazine singling out relative newcomer Kirk as "a convincing, charismatic and thoroughly likeable presence from her very first line". The Guardian also praised Kirk, though it felt the characters were "cartoonishly sketched".

The film was Parry's debut screenplay. The comic, who was twice Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated with Pappy's and earned a best newcomer nod for his 2015 solo debut Yellow T-Shirt, is currently developing another feature, Zombie Troubles, for Searchlight Pictures.
