Classing Ealing Studios film Kind Hearts And Coronets is returning to cinemas this summer after a comprehensive restoration, to celebrate its 70th anniversary.

Restored in 4K, the new release will be in cinemas on Friday 7th June before coming to home entertainment formats on the 24th. A trailer has been published today (below). The film was first released in cinemas on 23rd June 1949.

Ealing Studios archive owners STUDIOCANAL explain: "The 1949 film stars Dennis Price as the debonair yet impoverished Louis Mazzini, the would-be Duke of Chalfont whose mother was disinherited by her noble family for marrying beneath her. When her dying wish to be buried in the family crypt is refused, Louis vows to avenge his mother and work his way up the family tree, by engaging in the gentle art of murder. One by one he attempts to kill off the eight successors that stand in the way of his becoming Duke - all of which were notably played by Alec Guinness."

Directed by Robert Hamer (who co-wrote the screenplay with John Dighton), the film also starred Joan Greenwood and Valerie Hobson, with a supporting cast including Arthur Lowe and Miles Malleson.

Described as "one of the finest British films ever made", the cinematic outing will be followed on 24th June by new Blu-ray (2K) and DVD (~1K) releases of the film from the new restoration, in STUDIOCANAL's Vintage Classics Collection.

A deluxe "stunning Collector's Edition" box set will also be released, including both Blu-ray and DVD copies of the film, a booklet, art cards and newly designed theatrical poster.

All three versions of the film's new restoration include new extras Once More with Ealing - including interviews with filmmakers Whit Stillman, Paul King, Stephen Woolley and critic Peter Bradshaw discussing their love for Ealing and the brilliant legacy of Kind Hearts And Coronets; the BFI's Introducing Ealing Studios; and a costumes stills gallery.

Other extras come from a previous restoration of the film, already available on Blu-ray and DVD. Released in 2011 to mark the 80th anniversary of Ealing Studios, it also includes additional features such as a Radio 3 programme about the film, which are not due to be included on the 2019 releases.
