Russell Kane to appear in rom-com Scottish Mussel
Russell Kane is to take on his first major acting role, featuring in a new British comedy film.
Kane will appear alongside The Inbetweeners' Joe Thomas and director Talulah Riley in Scottish Mussel, where he will play a camp jeweller.
Riley played Annabelle Fritton in the recent St. Trinian's films, and will star as Joe Thomas's character's love interest in the Glasgow-set movie.
Described as a "romantic comedy" with "the environment an integral part of the love story", filming on the low-budget independent picture started last week.
Noel Clarke is one of the producers of the film, which is expected in cinemas next year, and will also feature James Dreyfus, who is currently appearing in Sky Living's Mount Pleasant, and Line of Duty star Martin Compston.
Kane played a psychopathic gangster at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe, in a one-man show called The Closure of Craig Solly. Promoting the show, he told The Guardian: "I've always wanted to do acting, but I've been doing standup. Tomorrow, if I get a call about a movie in Hollywood, can I make it? No I can't. I'm doing a gig."
He added: "I love stand-up. Even if I were lucky enough to get a movie part, I'd still try and do gigs. I've seen what happens to stand-ups who take a year off."
In December, Kane will host comedy revue This is Comedy 2014 at London's Vaudeville Theatre, with a line-up also including Zoe Lyons, Joel Dommett and Luisa Omielan.
