After the death of her father, beautiful American blonde Terry Arden arrives in London to get involved in the running of a business he was a silent half-owner of, Miss London Ltd., providing female escorts and companionship for reputable gentlemen.
With the war at its height and soldiers from a host of nationalities regularly coming and going through the capital on leave, by all rights it should be booming but when she arrives she finds a dusty, empty office and the one member of staff complaining about unpaid wages.
Miss London herself turns out, in fact, to be a short and slightly nervous middle-aged man, Arthur Bowden. It seems the girls on the company's books haven't been refreshed for quite some time, leaving them far beyond the tastes of modern gentlemen!
Terry sets about turning the company, and Arthur's practices, around immediately: cleaning the office from top to bottom, advocating first a considerable recruitment drive for new girls, and then a promotional drive for new customers.
Things are just starting to look more positive for Miss London Ltd.'s future when their arrears catch up with them and their landlord clears all of their property - books, desks, chairs and all - onto the pavement. The fortuitous arrival of one of the girls' acquaintances leads to the formulation of an idea that might give them a lifeline, but it's not going to be easy to arrange.
