Producers have today confirmed that a long-gestating Paddington Bear musical will arrive in the West End later this year.

Paddington The Musical will open on 1st November at the Savoy Theatre in central London, the venue attached to the famed hotel of the same name.

Written by Jessica Swale and with music and lyrics by McFly alumnus Tom Fletcher, based on Michael Bond's original stories and inspired by the hit films, it has been in development for almost five years and was first announced in 2023.

Tickets go on sale on 15th May, with a waiting list for bookings now open.

The musical will tell the story of the iconic bear's arrival in London from Peru and search for a home, featuring both original characters and favourites from the globally successful film series.

Fletcher said today: "This unique and special bear is at the very heart of our nation, and I'm aware of the awesome responsibility we all have in taking on his story. It's beyond exciting, and an absolute dream come true..."

Swale says: "It's such a privilege to be telling the story of such a beloved cultural icon. Paddington is so much more than a fictional character; this special bear has come to represent hope, kindness and acceptance, so it's never felt like a more apt time to bring this story to the stage.

"Tom's songs are extraordinary, earworms on a first listen, Luke Sheppard is the most masterful director, and our producers are so incredibly passionate and dedicated, it really is a great honour to be on this adventure with them all. I can't wait to share this beautiful tale."

Producers tease "it's an immense privilege to look after this bear as we bring him to the West End stage".

Further details about the production, including casting and the means of Paddington's realisation on stage, are currently being kept under wraps.
