Follow That Camel trivia

Although always considered part of the franchise by producer Peter Rogers and his team, this film was initially released without the 'Carry On' prefix following the series' move from distributors Anglo Amalgamated to Rank. A later re-release saw it publicised as Carry On... Follow That Camel. Don't Lose Your Head suffered similarly.

Sid James was originally intended to play the role of Sergeant Nocker, but had to pull out due to filming commitments for the television sitcom George And The Dragon.

Phil Silvers was paid £30,000 for his starring role in Follow That Camel, matched only by Elke Sommer in 1975's Carry On Behind. By contrast, second-billed Kenneth Williams received a far more usual payment of just £6,000.

The camel used in the film was Sheena, a resident of Chessington Zoo. Unfortunately, she had never walked on sand prior to filming and special tracks had to be laid for her to progress.
