Carry On Matron trivia

Although Carry On Matron was released in 1972, the role of matron had in fact been abolished in NHS hospitals in 1966.

Producer Peter Rogers had originally contracted original Carry On scribe Norman Hudis to pen Carry On Matron. However, by then living in the US, Hudis's membership of the Writer's Guild of America provided insurmountable red tape.

Peter Butterworth was originally lined up to play the role of Freddy but could not meet the film's production dates due to television commitments, leading to Bill Maynard's casting.
