TV Comedy Preview: 7th to 13th April 2014

Our guide to the interesting new things to watch on TV this week (the 7th to 13th April 2014) features Channel 5... we can't remember the last time we mentioned that network!

Rev

The superior sitcom continues. This week a local artist offers to make a big donation to St Saviour's. Has Adam found a solution to his financial problems? Er... no, probably not, but the journey along the way is a lot of fun. Monday, 10pm, BBC Two. Guide

Sweat The Small Stuff. Image shows from L to R: Rochelle Humes, Nick Grimshaw, Melvin Odoom. Copyright: Talkback

Sweat The Small Stuff

This panel show returns for a third series. We're going to struggle to say anything particularly interesting about it here... the premise (talking about life's little annoyances) isn't exactly gripping. Nev Wilshire - the comic boss at the centre of fly-on-the-wall documentary The Call Centre - could be worth tuning in for though. Tuesday, 10pm, BBC Three. Guide

Alex Zane

Alex Zane: Funny Rotten Scoundrels

New TV channel London Live continues to offer up more comedy shows across the week (you can see them via their website if you don't live in the capital). The most high profile is this stand-up show hosted by Alex Zane. This week's line-up features Doc Brown, Ellie Taylor and Paul Sweeney. Tuesday, 10pm, London Live. Guide

W1A

The satire on BBC management bows out. Yup, just four episodes. Given how well the show has been received though, it's likely to be back for more later. As you'll have seen from the preview at the end of last week's episode, Ian's ex-PA Sally Owen (Olivia Colman) makes an appearance. Wednesday, 10pm, BBC Two. Guide

Some Funeral Directors With Jokes

The business of dealing with dead bodies and grieving relatives isn't the first you'd associate with jokers. However, it turns out undertakers have a great sense of humour when off duty. In this week's episode of the low-budget Some People With Jokes series, they share some of their favourite gags. Thursday, 10:30pm, BBC Four. Guide

The Trip. Image shows from L to R: Steve (Steve Coogan), Rob (Rob Brydon). Copyright: Baby Cow Productions / Arbie

The Trip

This week Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan go on a boat trip, taking in a local restaurant and Percy Shelley's house for a picture before continuing their journey and arriving at another restaurant. Rob wonders aloud about what they will be remembered for in 200 years' time. Friday, 10pm, BBC Two. Guide

The Guess List. Rob Brydon. Copyright: 12 Yard Productions

The Guess List

Rob Brydon is all over the TV this week - and it's going to be interesting to see him appearing in something quite 'arty' (see above) at the same time as something really mainstream. The Guess List is very much a shiny floor entertainment show - see our guide for a trailer. Saturday, 9:30pm, BBC One. Guide

Morecambe & Wise On Stage. Image shows from L to R: Eric Morecambe, Ernie Wise

Morecambe & Wise Live

Technically, this selection isn't actually new (obviously)... however as it hasn't been seen on television for 27 years it feels only right we point you in its direction here. It's the only ever fully-recorded stage performance by legendary comedy double act Morecambe & Wise. A masterclass in comedy. Saturday, 10:10pm, Channel 5. Guide

Off Their Rockers. Image shows from L to R: Rosie Bannister, Royston Mayoh, Sonia Elliman, Iris Sharples, Seb Craig, Rosemary Macvie. Copyright: CPL Productions

Off Their Rockers

More from the show in which pensioners play pranks on the younger generations and, in the process, demonstrate that most people in this country are rather decent. This time a Rocker performs a daredevil escape from an OAP home, and another has a quick nap on a nice comfy shoulder. Sunday, 7:30pm, ITV. Guide

There's some other new things on TV this week too, plus lots of radio shows. For a complete summary of everything see our full schedule
