Some great Spaced episodes

It was back in 1999 that the first episode of Spaced appeared on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, introducing viewers to the characters of Tim, Daisy, Marsha, Mike, Brian and Twist (played by Simon Pegg, Jessica Stevenson, Julia Deakin, Nick Frost, Mark Heap and Katy Carmichael).

The series has gone on to develop a cult following and can count Quentin Tarantino among its millions of fans. But, despite its popularity, only 14 episodes of the show were ever made.

Here's a look at four of the best of those instalments...

The start of the Wright and Pegg partnership

We begin with a look at Series 1, Episode 3: having taken drugs from some interesting Scottish characters, Tim loads Resident Evil 2 and spends the night killing zombies.

Fast forward to 2021 and a game of online blackjack could have been on the cards but it was the un-dead for Tim that night.

Meanwhile Daisy is busy attending a job interview at a women's magazine, the name of which is best left unsaid. The episode also sees Brian failing to impress Vulva, and then receiving a punch to the face from Tim, who is struggling to battle his Twiglets allergy and zombie hallucinations.

The early seeds for Shaun Of The Dead, the 2004 film which the stars made with Spaced director Edgar Wright, could be said to be seen in this episode.

Next, let's focus on Series 2, Episode 7: the final episode of the sitcom. Throughout this episode, there is a danger the group are going to fall apart, and even the relationship between Tim and Mike is at breaking point.

However, the best thing about the final episode is how the relationship between Tim and Daisy concludes, with the former choosing the latter over Sophie. Having found a letter written by Daisy saying she is leaving for a new job, Tim rushes to the train station and sends Mike to take Sophie to the airport for her new life in Seattle.

A noughties cult classic

Back to Series 1: it's Episode 5 that is regarded by many as being the best Spaced episode. Tim decides to take Colin (the dog) on a late night walk, but Colin goes missing and Daisy suspects Tim has deliberately got rid of him.

However, there is a twist when they receive a note saying Colin has been dognapped by an evil vivisectionist. A rescue mission is on the cards and the group get together to create a covert plan and save the canine.

Staying with Series 1, let's move the focus now to another great half-hour: Episode 6, called 'Epiphanies'. Tim receives a visit at the flat from his friend Tyres who asks them to go to a nightclub. Having gathered up the gang, they head off to the venue, but Brian takes a lot of persuading to join them because he once had a bad experience in a nightclub.

However, Brian discovers a new love for the club scene. Let's just say it involves drugs and the theme tune from The A-Team. 'Epiphanies' will either make you want to visit a night club as soon as you have finished watching or avoid clubs altogether. You will have to watch the episode and decide for yourself.
