Short Com 2016 winners

Short Com

Short Com, the video screening programme, came to an end on the 12th of March. A packed audience at the Hackney Attic were present to witness its last ever screening. Twenty-four short films, tightly packed over three programmes, were presented by comedian Bec Hill.

Short Com founder Chris Aitken stated that it was a really fitting end to its four and a half year run. "Every film got a laugh. To actually get the amount of quality funny films we had was no easy task but the endeavour was rewarded by the audiences' vocal appreciation.

"It was also wonderful to see a lot of the filmmakers there, I believe seeing a live audience laugh at your film means so much more than a hundred thumbs up from YouTube. Over the four and a half years doing Short Com, this will be my happiest and proudest moment in its screening run. And we made a bit of money for charity which is no bad thing either."

As part of the event, the 2016 Short Com winners were announced, spread over four categories. The winners received prizes from Final Draft and BlackMagic Design and, as can be seen from the photos at the bottom of this article, a special balloon too.

You can watch the three winning entries here:
