BBC and QI podcasts recognised in iTunes Awards

No Such Thing As A Fish

The BBC's main comedy podcast and a show produced by QI's researchers are amongst the best things on iTunes, according to Apple.

Every year, the American technology giant names what it considers to the best cultural things available to download from its online software platform iTunes. This year, within the iTunes UK podcast section, it has selected Friday Night Comedy from BBC Radio 4 and No Such Thing As A Fish.

Friday Night Comedy from BBC Radio 4, the podcast which allows people to download the satirical comedies broadcast in BBC Radio 4's 6:30pm Friday slot (primarily The News Quiz and The Now Show), has been named the 'Best Classic Podcast'. Since it launched in September 2007, it has become the BBC's most downloaded podcast, with over 70 million streams as of August 2014.

The 'Best New Podcast' category was this won by No Such Thing as a Fish, a show from the 'QI Elves', the team who research the BBC Two panel game hosted by Stephen Fry. Normally presented by Dan Schreiber, James Harkin, Anna Ptaszynski and Andrew Hunter Murray, each episode of the podcast features the Elves discussing the most interesting fact they have each discovered that week and discussing relevant topics connected to said facts. Since its launch in March it has gained 530,000 subscribers.

Below is the latest episode of No Such Thing As A Fish, a special live recording from Brussels featuring a guest appearance from Belgian comedian and physicist Lieven Scheire.
