The British Music Hall Society celebrated the life and career of entertainer Danny La Rue at The Water Rats Theatre in Gray's Inn Road, London.

La Rue, who died in May 2009, was known for his stage and TV performances, particularly his routines which involved singing and cross-dressing.

The evening was hosted by Chairman of the Society Adam Borzone. The first half saw Valerie Walsh, Jenny Logan, Clovissa Newcombe, Toni Palmer and Barry Cryer talking about Danny and his nightclub years, firstly at Winston's and then his own club in Hanover Square.

Danny's club attracted royalty, celebrities and coach parties in huge numbers and at the peak of its success had more than 13,000 members. Celebrity guests included The Beatles, Warren Beatty, Shirley Bassey, Noel Coward, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Krays, King Hussein of Jordan, Judy Garland, Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret.

The second half saw President of the Society Roy Hudd, alongside Lorna Dallas, Steven Metcalfe, Annie Galbraith and Keith Simmons chatting about La Rue's West End and pantomime productions and the glamorous extravagant costumes and wigs he used.
