Iconic food moments in British sitcoms
Nothing beats going out for a nice meal with friends and family or enjoying a takeaway at home. There is so much amazing food to be enjoyed at restaurants and eateries all across Britain.
People love dishes from every corner of the world and this has been portrayed in British comedy for decades.
This article will feature some of the best and most memorable food moments from the UK's favourite sitcoms.
Alan Partridge's big plate
The hapless radio DJ thinks he has fooled staff at the Linton Travel Tavern by taking a 12-inch plate to the hotel buffet only for the receptionist to embarrass him during a Valentine's date by asking: "Got your big plate, Alan?"
Partridge reluctantly admits to his act of deception and is a laughing stock among the hotel staff. Poor Alan.
The former Knowing Me, Knowing You... host should have instead looked for voucher codes for food online rather than trying to trick the hotel porter, Michael and others. That way, he wouldn't have been made to look daft again.
Smithy's Indian takeaway
Gav's best mate, Smithy, knows exactly what he wants when the families decide to order an Indian takeaway.
"Chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bunha, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan and nine poppadoms," says Smithy in an instant. However, he soon becomes wildly irritated at the very thought of sharing his food.
The moment soon became iconic as many fans could relate and agreed with James Corden's character that other people dipping into your meal is a complete no-no.
Only Fools And Horses' bad paint job
Rodney and Grandad found themselves in another hilarious pickle thanks to Del Boy after he arranged for them to redecorate a Chinese restaurant kitchen in a 1982 episode of this much-loved comedy set in Peckham, London.
Having foolishly bought 'gold' paint from dim friend, Trigger, for the job, Del decides to also redecorate the grave of his and Rodney's mother as the anniversary of her death nears.
However, they soon get a shock when the owner of the restaurant calls and they realise that rather than painting the walls and gravestone gold, it was actually a reflective, luminous yellow.
Cue hysterics from the studio audience and the millions watching at home.
