Wordy tribute celebrates Golden Age talents in BBC's centenary year
Do you love wordplay? Do you revere the Golden Age of British Comedy? Do you fancy something which combines the two? Look no further!
To celebrate this year's 100th anniversary of the BBC, Henry Dawe, an actor and writer whose first play Beyond The Pail was performed at the 2016 Leicester Comedy Festival, has joined forces with actors Scott Simpson and Mary Piercy to record an audio tribute to the Golden Age of British Comedy. The script weaves the names of the great talents into the dialogue between the characters.
Tommy Cooper, Frankie Howerd, Sid James, Hattie Jacques, Prunella Scales and Joan Sims are just some of the many outstanding stars included in the piece.
First published in Henry's book Play on Words in 2020, this heartfelt homage aims to thank many of the fine men and women who gave audiences so much pleasure in the years of Britain's best-loved comedy output.
The six instalments of the tribute are showcased here on British Comedy Guide. Come and join Henry, Scott and Mary on the ride as they recognise our top laughter-makers and aim to make you laugh at the same time!
