David Brent - The Album?

Learn Guitar With David Brent. Ricky Gervais

A David Brent album could soon be ringing in your ears, as Ricky Gervais has received a stack of offers to make a album based around The Office star.

Since releasing various songs on his YouTube channel, as part of his Learn Guitar with David Brent series, Gervais has seen offers flying in from around the globe to make a comic music album.

The character has a catalogue of song already with titles like Life on the Road, Ooh La La, Spaceman Came Down, Free Love Freeway, Ain't No Trouble and his latest tutorial out today, Slough.

Gervais says: "I can't believe I'm now getting ridiculous offers from major record deals all over the world for a David Brent album. Where were these people when I was trying to be a real popster? And starving? ha ha.

"It's been so much fun bringing back David Brent and have him philosophise on YouTube, and spend all his hard earned repping money on still trying to become a pop star. It's funny and sadly true of today's X-Factor culture."

The Learn Guitar with David Brent is a fortnightly YouTube series which, in the words of 'the great Brentmeister General himself', it is "literally going down like hot cakes, so thank you".

Here's the latest instalment - Slough - in which Brent toys with the idea of reforming a band. He calls on his 'pupils' to get in touch if they want to fill the "big shoes" of his former band mates Reggie Mental, Flange Warrior and Mammogram from Brent's band Foregone Conclusion:

Learn Guitar with David Brent was launched off the back of Equality Street, the music video Gervais createed for Comic Relief. The video, which also stars Doc Brown, has now been viewed over 3.5 million times.

As he touched upon above, Gervais used to be a real popstar with the group Seona Dancing. The New Wave group reached 79 in the UK charts in 1983. Here's their music video featuring the comedian looking quite different:
