EU Referendum: Which way would comedy characters vote?
Polling company YouGov has asked the British public which way they think various fictional characters would vote in the forthcoming EU Referendum.
It turns out the country thinks that Geraldine from The Vicar Of Dibley is the character most likely to vote on the 23rd June to remain in the EU, meanwhile Jim from The Royle Family would be the character most firmly backing 'Brexit'.
Here's a list of all the comedy characters that those surveyed were asked to decide on. The higher up the list the character is, the more likely people think they would vote to remain/leave.
Voting to Remain
Geraldine Granger from The Vicar Of Dibley
Sir Humphrey Appleby from Yes Prime Minister
Mr Khan from Citizen Khan
Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones Diary
Miranda from Miranda
Arthur Dent from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
Mr Bean from Mr Bean
Voting to Leave
Jim Royle from The Royle Family
Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers
Joannie Taylor from Catherine Tate's Nan
Captain Mainwaring from Dad's Army
Del Boy from Only Fools And Horses
Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances
Alan Partridge from I'm Alan Partridge
Keith Lemon from Celebrity Juice
Ali G from Da Ali G Show
David Brent from The Office
YouGov also asked the public about various other fictional characters, such as James Bond and Pat Butcher. For the full results see yougov.co.uk
YouGov conducted a similar experiment in 2012 when they asked the public how these characters might vote in a General Election. Basil Fawlty and Alan Partridge was perceived as Conservatives, whilst Del Boy and Jim Royle were seen as Labour voters.
Comedy fans interested in the EU Referendum can look forward to a number of TV and radio comedy specials this June, including the return of Mock The Week and The Now Show. Plus Channel 4 is launching topical sitcom Power Monkeys and Jack Dee's HelpDesk returns to BBC Two for three specials.
