I am a male in my late 40's. I have worked full-time all my adult and didn't bother trying at school. Always loved reading good comedy and listening to it being spoken/acted out.
I tend to have a sarcastic/satirical/cynical view on most aspects of the modern world that don't make much sense or don't seem worthwhile, but are seen by others as vital.
I was brought up on a diet of The Comedians etc. but bought into modern comedy early on. There is a place for both.....and everything in between!!
