This profile was created for research purposes only.

I am a master's degree student at City University London and I would like to invite you to take part in a research study. Before you decide whether you would like to participate, it is important that you understand why the research is being done and what it would involve for you. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish.

Research has found that people often don't tell the truth when asked about sensitive topics, such as their sexual habits and whether they pay taxes.

This UK-based study aims to assess whether a survey method known as the Randomise Response Technique (RRT) enables people to give truthful answers in web-based surveys on sexual behaviour.

The research targets a population of young adult individuals aged 18-34 - where there is a statistically higher risk of sexual health issues, such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

The study involves answering questions on a short web-based questionnaire. You are only required to follow the instructions and answer the questions asked in the online questionnaire to the best of your ability. It will take you no more than five minutes to do so. The information you will provide will be kept completely anonymous.

Participation is voluntary, and you can choose not to participate in part or the entire project. You can withdraw at any stage of the study without being penalised or disadvantaged in any way. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you do decide to take part you will be asked to agree a consent form. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason.

I will use the findings from this study to write the final dissertation for my Masters of Science (MSc) in Health Informatics. Potentially these findings can be published in the academic literature. The information gathered is anonymous, and will be stored securely whilst the project is on going, after which it will be destroyed.

Sexual behaviour and relationships are very important aspects of wellbeing and are influenced by social patterns, attitudes and health. Therefore such study can produce information that can help health researchers and social scientists to prevent and manage STIs and reduce social problems, such as prostitution and relationship issues.

Should you need more information about the study, you can send an email to raresurvey@gmail.com

This study has been approved by City University London Senate Research Ethics Committee.
