I am a forty-something writer and misanthrope currently residing in the remoter outreaches of the Highlands of Scotland. I state my profession as 'freelance copywriter', being far too vain and supercilious to admit to being 'mostly out of work'. My debut novel, Pardon Me: A Victorian Farce, has been described (by me) as the funniest book ever written. To learn more about the book please visit http://www.jamesroberts.scot.
I have been a big fan of sitcom and sketch shows since my childhood in the 1970s. My dad used to watch Spike Milligan's Q series and some of the other, slightly left-field BBC2 offerings of the time and I picked up the bug. My tastes are pretty eclectic. My favourite sitcom series of all time is probably Blackadder II, or possible Rising Damp, or possibly Rab C Nesbitt. I am also a big fan of comic novels, PG Wodehouse and Tom Sharpe being amongst my favourite authors.
Not so huge on stand up. Used to love Jasper Carrot in his prime and can still watch Frank Skinner, but then I am also a Baggies fan.
