Once there was a girl who loved comedy. She wanted to write it, perform it, film it, but yet she knew not how. She was desperate, tired and hungry for laughs. She started hanging about on street corners handing out pirated copies of The IT Crowd, with the hope of attracting a kindred spirit (and not the police). Some days she would pretend she was a jockey and follow the fire brigade around, a la Big Train, or try to start New Zealand's fifth most popular band. At her worst she would dress as a geography teacher and scream "Vince?" into the bedroom mirror with as much Cornish guilt as was physically possible till passing out on the floor. Still, no one came to save her from this lonely existence. One day she joined an internet forum for comedy fans, writers and general weirdos. A similarly isolated and rejected comedian read her profile and began to smile. They felt the spirit of comedy rise up inside and they said to themselves, "Oh, if only I had the confidence. I would message you right now, just to say how completely and utterly stupid this story is".
I am a big fan of Graham Linehan sitcoms (The IT Crowd, Father Ted, Black Books), Spaced, Flight of the Conchords, Peep Show, The Mighty Boosh, Big Train, radio shows like The Now Show, stand ups like Tony Law, Bill Bailey, Dylan Moran, Greg Davies, Rhod Gilbert, Eddie Izzard and Simon Amstell (amongst others).
I'd ideally like to meet other people interested in writing and performing sketches, with the possibility of working on a sitcom at some point but no rush. I'm a relative novice, but I've been swotting up on comedy since I was a little Fran so I'm hoping that will make things easier.
I like comedy that is a bit silly, surreal, sometimes satirical... if music is involved all the better. I play guitar and write songs and would love to find other musical comedians to collaborate with.
