Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 30th March 2022Mathew Horne on life after Gavin & Stacey: 'I can be dangerous'
It's the comedian's curse. What happens to the "nice guy" when double acts break up? Ernie Wise spent 15 years kicking his heels after Eric Morecambe died young. Ricky Gervais is still happily causing offence, while Stephen Merchant, co-creator of The Office, has forged a future behind the camera.
Susannah Butter, The Times, 30th March 2022Al Murray, the Pub Landlord: the pint-swilling philosopher for our times
"This was our Blitz!" announces Al Murray's beer-sloshing alter ego the Pub Landord as he takes to the stage full of characteristically overstated certainties. It's a crowded market if you joke about covid and lockdown, and the Landlord's ideas aren't quite sharp enough to puncture any thoughts of "oh no, not this again". Still, no other act is as well placed to put today's miseries in context. The Landlord is a bar-room philosopher whose arguments slalom between no-nonsense and all-nonsense. He may not have his creator's Oxford degree in modern history, but he has the same broad-canvas view of humanity.

Nicola and Rosie Dempsey, The Guardian, 30th March 2022Steve Furst: New Characters - Museum of Comedy, London review
An angry geography teacher with a passion for punishment, a Cockney style icon and a Northern Soul enthusiast. No, it's not the beginning of a bad 'walk into a bar' joke - it's a selection of new characters, performed by Steve Furst during his latest comedy sketch show.

BBC, 30th March 2022Review: Lucinda Spragg: An Evening With
Lucinda Spragg: An Evening With is excellently crafted, deftly performed and astutely observed and though I am steadfast in my hope that we might one day condemn these types of people to the trashcan of history, Lucinda is well worth spending the evening with.
