The Phantom Of The Open review

The Phantom Of The Open is a delightful film, effortlessly funny and charming with some excellent characterisation and smart, but subtle commentary.

Ruby Wax calls on the nation to give up the 'F Word' for Comic Relief

That 'F word' is 'fine'. As a nation we collectively proclaim that we're 'fine' 215 million times every day, with the average person saying it four times during every 24 hour period, and 28 times over the course of a week. Yet, according to new research, nearly every other time (38%) a person in Britain says the 'f word', they're not being honest.

Rob Newman

Live review: Rob Newman @ Newcastle Stand

Now, if you were hoping to hear short and punchy one-liners, Rob Newman's new tour is not the show for you. Throughout his 90-minute performance, the comedian extraordinaire eloquently questioned academic theories and philosophical principles using his distinctive brand of educated wit and highbrow humour. During his show, to the audience's amusement, the artist even apologised in case his material was what all the comics were talking about.

Live review: Shazia Mirza's Coconut

Undeniably, Mirza had fulfilled her task as a stand-up comedian, and not in the car crash way. The show was not bad, and it certainly was not mediocre - it was excellent.

James Cary

Is your lead character the least funny character in your sitcom script?

Last time, I was fairly robust about why your pilot script should not be the first day at work for your lead character. Another reason to avoid a 'first day at work' pilot plot: all of your other characters are going to be funnier than your passive lead who's wondering the office wondering what they've gotten themselves into.
