Sunderland named "laughter capital of the UK"

Sunderland has emerged as the laughter capital of the UK, according to a new scientific study released today which pinpoints that the residents of the North Eastern city laugh 33 times a day, which is 43% more than the national average. The new study titled 'The Hilarity Report' identifies the places, and family members that laugh like no other in the UK. The report by children's comic Beano co-authored with neuroscientist and laughter expert Professor Sophie Scott, also reveals the professions which give Brits the most lols.

Simon Bird: Debrief review

It's strange and unsettling watching Simon Bird perform his debut stand-up special to an empty theatre - and he probably wouldn't have it any other way.

Didn't like BBC's adaptation of Pursit Of Love? Grow up

Purists have been whingeing that Emily Mortimer's version of the Nancy Mitford classic wasn't perfect. There is nothing more boring or performative than this superior literary snobbery.

Rare Beasts review

Single mother Mandy (Billie Piper) is a millennial woman in crisis. She's fallen in love -- or at least, into a relationship of sorts -- with colleague and kinda-misogynist Pete (Leo Bill); she works for a toxic company; her parents (Kerry Fox, David Thewlis) have separated and her son (Toby Woolf) has behavioural issues. Will, can, feminism help her through it all?
