Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em accused of homophobia
As 1970s sitcoms go, the hapless Frank Spencer's exploits seem rather benign. While Mind Your Language and Love Thy Neighbour have dated badly with their racist language, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em is mostly remembered for its "Ooh Betty" catchphrase and Frank's preposterous beret. It ran for three series on the BBC from 1973 to 1978, but has made an unexpected appearance in the culture wars after the BBC began an inquiry into a complaint about homophobia.
