Murder In Successville is to return to BBC Three for a second series.

The comedy format sees a celebrity guest join the local police force each week, working alongside DI Sleet (Tom Davis) to solve a murder in Successville, a town populated entirely by celebrities - brought to life by an array of impressionist and comic acting talent.

Largely improvised with the guest participants completely unprepared and unscripted, Series 1 saw Jamie Laing, Greg James, Deborah Meaden, Dermot O'Leary, Kimberly Wyatt and Louis Smith joining Sleet to solve the crimes.

Producers tease: "The question is - who will rise to the challenge this time?"

The BBC say: "In the new series, prepare to see some of today's most famed celebrities (played by the likes of Tom Stourton, Colin Hoult and Cariad Lloyd) as you've never seen them before, and expect DI Sleet to put his sidekicks in more ridiculous and hilarious predicaments."

Tom Davis says of his return as DI Sleet: "I'm over the moon to be heading back to Successville and I would like to thank the BBC for embracing the madness of the show. We have loads more mad places to go and I can't wait to see who we are taking there. LET'S GO SOLVE A CRIME."

Damian Kavanagh, Controller of BBC Three, says: "BBC Three will always be home to the best British creative ideas and talent, and Murder In Successville is no exception. The guys were amazing in the first series and I am sure we will have celebs knocking down our door to get under DI Sleet this time. Let's go solve a crime!"

Commissioning Editor Ed Sleeman adds: "I'm so excited that the brilliant Murder In Successville is coming back. I can't wait to find out which celebs will dare to join DI Sleet in the new series, and wish the precarious residents of Successville the best of luck. Let's go solve a crime."

Head of Comedy Entertainment at producers Tiger Aspect, Andy Brereton said: "It's amazing to have another chance at murder - most people only get one stab at it. Will the sidekicks feel the heat when they join DI Sleet on the beat? Or can they call upon the science of deduction to solve a Murder In Successville? Let's go solve a crime."

Expected to run for another six episodes, Series 2 will begin filming in January. The exact future for the show is not yet clear as BBC management wait for permission to go ahead with plans to close down BBC Three and reinvent the name as a collection of programming within the iPlayer on-demand service, rather than a television channel.

If permission is granted by regular the BBC Trust, the channel may close early in 2016, leaving Murder In Successville as an online offering with late-night repeat broadcasts on BBC One or BBC Two at a later date.
