Jeremy Lloyd honoured in New Year List
Jeremy Lloyd has been awarded an OBE - Officer of the Order of the British Empire - in the 2013 New Year's Honours List, it has been announced today.
A prolific comedy writer, he is best known for his successful and long-running partnership with producer and director David Croft, who died in 2011. Together, the pair wrote comedies inlcuding long-running international smash-hit sitcoms 'Allo 'Allo! and Are You Being Served?. The honour is bestowed in recognition for services to British comedy.
Croft received the same honour, for services to television, alongside Jimmy Perry in 1978, with whom he co-wrote programmes including Dad's Army.
Elsewhere, theatre producer Nica Burns, owner of a number of West End venues and the producer and director of the Edinburgh Comedy Award since 1984 - currently sponsored by Foster's lager - has been awarded an OBE for services to theatre.
Actors awarded honours in the list include Siobhan Redmond (Benidorm, The Smoking Room) and film star Ewan McGregor.
