Preview: London Is Funny Live

London Is Funny

London Is Funny, the self-styled London comedy bible (they do indeed know more about the capital's live scene than any omnipotent entity), has re-launched its live nights after a two-year absence.

We don't often mention individual club nights on BCG, but think it is worth shining a light on London Is Funny Live. The shows will be monthly on a Sunday night, and take place at the Crown and 2 Chairmen pub in Soho. The pub was formerly the venue for Sohoho - a popular weekend club which closed its doors in 2012.

LiF editor Paul Fleckney tells us that the nights aim to reflect the "sheer talent and diversity of comedy that can be seen on the London circuit".

Fleckney added: "There are loads of excellent comedy clubs and theatres in London, and plenty of weak ones too, and LiF's raison d'etre is to steer people towards the good stuff, so these live shows are LiF putting its money where its mouth is!

"One of the things I love most about the London comedy circuit is all the niches. You've got everything from open mic nights to McIntyre at the O2 Arena, there are loads of mini scenes such as the weekend mainstream clubs, weird mid-week clubs, sketch nights, political nights, small theatres with one-hour solo shows...; then you've got the TV stars trying out new stuff, the rookies, the amazing circuit stalwarts who are under-appreciated, the comics who are over from the US for a few weeks, and so on.

"But all these different niches don't speak to each other much. It's ambitious but I want to do is cherrypick the best acts from each niche and put together something that's roughly representative of what's happening on the London circuit right now.

"Failing that I'll just put on the funniest people I can get."

The shows are co-promoted by the Crack Comedy chain, which also has clubs in Covent Garden, the Southbank, Kingston, Islington, Streatham, Wimbledon and Farncombe, as well as the new Soho venue.

LiF's previous live shows took place at the Dogstar in Brixton and featured the likes of Micky Flanagan, Pete Firman, Tim Key, Paul Sinha, Andrew Lawrence and Kerry Godliman.

The opening show is on Sunday 24th February 2013 at 7.30pm, and features physical comedy heroes the Pajama Men, plus a secret guest TV star, Katherine Ryan, Pat Cahill, Michael Fabbri, and an open spot. Tom Webb is the MC. Tickets are £7 in advance, or £9 on the door.
