Comedians appear on front cover of Beano Annual

Some of Britain's best-loved comedians have been turned into Beano characters. The comic has created a special limited edition 75th Anniversary Beano Annual cover to hand to guests at tomorrow's British Comedy Awards event.

Nominees Sarah Millican, Harry Hill, David Mitchell, Alan Carr and host Jonathan Ross are amongst those depicted. Other famous comedians including Michael McIntyre and Peter Kay also pop up on the cover.

Beano Annual 2013 - Comedian Special

Mike Stirling, the Editor in Chief of The Beano, says: "I wonder how many of this year's British Comedy Award winners were inspired to become comics after reading The Beano, the world's funniest comic? I hope The Beano continues to be the first stop for jokes, laughs and pranks for the next generation of British Comedy Award winners too!"

The Beano was first published on 30th July 1938, and the publication's 75th birthday celebrations will be focused around this date in 2013. The Beano's rival - The Dandy - which started in December 1937 now exists only in online format, with the last print edition released earlier this month.

Also Beano related, Dundee city council recently approved plans to name one of its roads 'Bash Street' in honour of badly behaved Beano school pupils (story).

The limited edition British Comedy Awards Annual featuring the comedians on the cover is sadly not available to buy, and only 1000 copies have been produced to be given to guests at the Awards. However The Beano Annual, which has been at the top of the Annual charts for most of the last decade, can be found in bookshops now, priced £7.99.

Here's pictures of 20 of the comedy stars depicted on the limited edition cover, can you name them all? They get harder to name towards the end.
